I cannot believe that half of 2005 is already gone. The kids have been out of school a full 2 weeks now. My parents visited from Oklahoma last week along with my older sister and her two sons. We took a short vacation up to Yosemite National Park from Wednesday through and including Saturday. We ran into one major glitch in that the fuel pump in my Dad's suburban decided to quit at Tunnel View. We had to call a tow truck from Yosemite Valley to tow the vehicle into Yosemite Village on Thursday morning where it stayed until Saturday afternoon when the repair shop finally received all the parts and had the time to fix the vehicle. In the meantime, Cris played taxi back and forth from the hotel into the park. Even though we had logistics problems, Yosemite was still beautiful and something that my mom and dad and older sister and her boys will always remember. Sunday we took a side trip over to Santa Cruz where the kids again had a blast on the boardwalk. I got to spend the afternoon talking with my sisters and parents drinking mocha cappuccino. Nice!!! Cris and Danny my brother-in-law, spend that afternoon shuttling the little kids to various kiddie rides. I was content to just hold Gillian and talk. Sooooooooo Nice.
Back on the Yosemite trip. We stayed at the Yosemite Lodge just outside the park entrance on Hwy 140. Awesome, Awesome rooms and our patio overlooked the raging Merced River. Nathan was in such awe of the water that he just kept walking out onto the patio hugging his brown bull and pointing "water"!! We actually were supposed to get a 4 bedroom house, but for some reason the hotel double booked the house and the folks who were in it decided to stay an additional day. We were therefore in a pickle, because we had brought food for the few days to cook and had no way of storing it. The hotel upgraded everyone to their own rooms with mini kitchenettes and refrigerators, so everything worked out ok. The house would have been nicer because everyone would had room to spread out and when the little ones all went to bed, us old folks could have stayed together and talked more. As it turned out, we all separated immediately after dinner to get all the kids washed, and in Pjs and off to bed. With my 4, Peg's 3, and Carolyn's 2, we had a total of 9 kids. My parents were so happy that we could all be together.
This was the first time that my parents got to meet Gillian. They just thought she was the cat's meow. I think so too...but of course I'm her mom.
Poor Cris, he's been trying to play golf more frequently, but with all the visitors and our work schedules and the kids activities, he doesn't seem to have enough time to go. He's only been getting to play about once per month. Today is his day off, but he's shuttling Frances around to some friends house, so if he gets to do anything related to golf it will be only to go to the golf driving range.
I'm trying my hand at growing tomatoes this summer. A friend gave me two plants a couple of days ago and spent a few minutes last night outside planting them in the backyard. I figure if we don't eat them, then all the squirrels and gophers we have will enjoy them. That is if I remember to water them frequently enough.
