Fair Week

Frances is taking her lamb over to the fair that starts today. Yesterday her FFA team spent part of the day at the fairgrounds setting up the pens for their animals. Then they spend the rest of the day at the farm grooming, slick shearing, and preping the animals for transfer to the fair today. Her lamb has to go through a vet check this afternoon, so they move the steers first, then the hogs, then the lambs. Once the animals are at the fair they must be with them from 7:30 am to 8:00 pm everyday. The students are working in teams to cover the entire day. Frances chose 9am to Noon for her shift each day this week, but she will likely choose to spend the whole day at the fair helping where ever help is needed. She totally loves this stuff. Her lamb is gorgeous!! He's a blue lamb so not pink like all the others. His coat is a darker and when they slick shear them, the blue comes through so beautifully. He's about 140 pounds so his weight is great and he's strong. The showing and judging for the lambs is Wednesday night at 5pm. She'll be wearing her FFA uniform and walk him around the arena sort of like the show dogs....I don't know. They sort of foo foo them up to look pretty. Anyway, I was amazed at how nice all the animals looked at the farm. The kids really did a great job caring for them and training them. I'll post pictures when we're all done. Frances has to wear white jeans, her blue FFA jacket, white shirt, and scarf, black boots, and black belt for the show. She looks so professional. She's really looking forward to this week, but I know she's just going to be wiped out at the end of each day. Thankfully the weather is supposed to be nice high seventys and low eighties all week temperature wise.
