Frances completed the lamb competion last night. Frances' placed 2nd (Champion Reserve) in her lamb's weight category. She received 5th place in the "Pens of Three" competition (pens of three are basically three lambs who have similiar qualities and traits within the same FFA chapter - they were a bit at a disadvantage because there were only two blue lambs in the Campbell chapter, so they ended up competing with 2 blues and a pink lamb, but still they placed!!). She placed 7th for "Showmanship." The Showmanship category was frustrating for her because the judge told her that he would have been placed her 3rd if her lamb's legs had been brushed free of the little bits and pieces of bedding they get on their legs when they sit down. She was so angry with herself because she forgot to check the cleanliness of her lamb's legs before going into the ring. Considering this is her first year, we are so very proud of her efforts. The Campbell FFA chapter overall recieved a "Herdsmanship" award meaning that they had the cleanest and well cared for barn area. Overall her FFA chapter has done very well. Several Champion and Reserve Champion hogs and lambs. By winning Champion Reserve with her lamb she was eligible to compete across all weight categories for the Fair Champion Reserve, however, the judge ended up choosing the overall Fair Champion and Champion Reserve from the 1st place winners in all categories. Once that was completed, the judge selected the order of auction based on the standings overall. Frances' lamb will be auctioned 8th out of about 60 lambs total which again, is really really good. The animals will be at the fairgrounds through Sunday night. We video taped her performance and took lots of pictures. We'll post soon.
